Performance Enhancement in Ferroelectric Thin Films for Uncooled Infrared Imaging Arrays

The development of high performance monolithic pyroelectric IR detectors requires ferroelectric films of high responsivity and high thermal isolation of self-supporting micromachined structures. In the DARPA-supported IR detector materials program, the ultimate goal is to demonstrate film properties that project to a system-level f/1 NETD of 10 mK for 48.5 μm-pixels. This paper will delineate m...

Optimizing Strontium Ruthenate Thin Films for Near-Infrared Plasmonic Applications

Several new plasmonic materials have recently been introduced in order to achieve better temperature stability than conventional plasmonic metals and control field localization with a choice of plasma frequencies in a wide spectral range. Here, epitaxial SrRuO3 thin films with low surface roughness fabricated by pulsed laser deposition are studied. The influence of the oxygen deposition pressur...

PHOTOCONDUCTIVE INFRARED EXCITATION SPECTRUM OF GaP DIODE WAFERS AND APPLICATION AS AN INFRARED IMAGING SYSTEM

The photoconductive excitation spectrum of GaP:N (ZnTe) diodes was measured irradiating the samples from pand n-side unter forward and reverse bias conditions. The ionization thresholds of S and Te donors as well as transitions from their ground states to excited bound levels with subsequent ionization by the electric field could be seen. The observed minima in the continuum above the ionizatio...

Chemically resolved imaging of biological cells and thin films by infrared scanning near-field optical microscopy.

The infrared (IR) absorption of a biological system can potentially report on fundamentally important microchemical properties. For example, molecular IR profiles are known to change during increases in metabolic flux, protein phosphorylation, or proteolytic cleavage. However, practical implementation of intracellular IR imaging has been problematic because the diffraction limit of conventional...

Sub-micron phase coexistence in small-molecule organic thin films revealed by infrared nano-imaging

Controlling the domain size and degree of crystallization in organic films is highly important for electronic applications such as organic photovoltaics, but suitable nanoscale mapping is very difficult. Here we apply infrared-spectroscopic nano-imaging to directly determine the local crystallinity of organic thin films with 20-nm resolution. We find that state-of-the-art pentacene films (grown...
